The Ubiquitous Green Community Control Network Security Standard, which was mainly made by BII, is officially released


In December 2013, the IEEE 1888.3 Standard (Ubiquitous Green Community Control Network: Security), which was approved by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE-SA) and mainly made by Beijing Internet Institute (BII), was officially issued, which marked the enrichment and improvement of the IEEE 1888 standard system. 


Initiated by BII, China Telecom, Intel and Beijing Jiaotong University, the IEEE 1888.3 Standard Work Group focuses on the research on the security of the Ubiquitous Green Community Control Network Protocol and strives to establish a standardized ubiquitous network security system. The standard was proposed in June 2011, and its draft was finally formed after five meetings for the work group. In October 2013, it was passed by the IEEE-SA and was issued two months later.


The making of the IEEE 1888.3 Standard received considerable support and guidance from such departments in charge as the National Development & Reform Commission and the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. Meanwhile, Zhongguancun Administrative Committee and Zhongguancun Standard Innovation Center also contributed supportive policies and capitals. 


As a key part of the IEEE 1888 Standard in the field of security, the standard standardizes the enhanced the function of security management and analyzes the potential threat to security in the application of the IEEE 1888 communication network. Furthermore, it defines the security demand, puts forward the system security architecture, and standardizes a complete security protocol and the implementation methods. Last but not least, it can prevent data disclosure and the illegal access to the resources, provide information protection, achieve bilateral certification in the IEEE 1888 system, and offer security services like access control, information completion and data confidentiality, thus creating a safe and reliable environment for transmission.


According to Liu Dong, the Chairman of the IEEE 1888.3 Standard Work Group and the CEO of Beijing Internet Institute, we have entered an era of Internet; big data has opened a major transformation of era and is changing our life, work and thought; network and information security has attracted increasingly extensive attention. The issuance and implementation of the IEEE 1888.3 will provide effective protection for the reliable transmission of the data in the IEEE 1888 system as well as urge a greater number of enterprises to make the products that meet the IEEE 1888 standards. Through standardized security solutions, the ICT technologies can be incorporated into architecture, energy, transportation, agriculture and other fields to build environmentally-friendly buildings, parks, communities, cities, agriculture and China and whereupon make China a global model in energy conservation and emission reduction.


According to the experts in the field, the industry of energy conservation and environmental protection has become a new pillar industry in China, so the issuance of the standard will further enrich and improve Chinese technical standard system in the field of energy conservation and emission reduction. Moreover, it will provide essential security and technical guarantee for creating a green and energy-saving industrial chain and developing smart energies, bring new development opportunities to relevant device manufacturers, operators and service suppliers, and give strong support for the fulfillment of the national objective of conserving energy and reducing emission and for the green and sustainable development of China


At present, the Standard Work Group has begun extensive cooperation with the government and relevant institutions on the industrial chain to establish the Smart Energy Industry Technology Innovation Strategy Union, apply the international and domestic advanced standards in the information communication technology industry to energy conservation and emission reduction, and improve the industry cooperation model. Additionally, they strive to promote the large-scale development of green energy conservation application, enhance the efficiency and energy conservation in the fields that are closely related to people’s livelihood, create a more beautiful China and realize the great Chinese dream.
