Global IPv6 Summit establishes a publicity and guidance platform to promote the construction of Next Generation Internet demonstration cities

On 25 December 2013, the National Development & Reform Commission and other three ministries and commissions released the name of the cities for the Next Generation Internet demonstration cities. The 16 Next Generation Internet demonstration cities (clusters) will take the IPv6 Next Generation Internet as the infrastructure and quickly lead the Chinese Next Generation Internet construction into an express highway. Against such an advantageous backdrop, the Global IPv6 Next Generation Internet Summit 2014 will be held from 17 to 18 April 2014 to facilitate the construction and publicity of Next Generation Internet demonstration cities (clusters).

Quicken the construction and upgrading of information infrastructure and speed up the development of Next Generation Internet

According to the Notice of Allowing 16 Cities (Clusters) like Beijing to Undertake the Construction of National Next Generation Internet Demonstration Cities issued by the National Development & Reform Commission and other three ministries and commissions, the 16 cities (clusters) need to strengthen infrastructure construction, quicken the IPv6 (the 6th Internet communication protocol) upgrading and improvement of such infrastructures as the Metropolitan Area Network, the Access Network and the Internet Data Center (IDC), increase the number of IPv6 users and promote the coverage of network access in the next step. In addition, they need to accelerate the incorporation of Next Generation Internet into emerging information technologies like new-generation mobile communication, mobile Internet, the Internet of Things, cloud computing and big data, help to address the problems in work and ensure the fulfillment of the construction objective.

The Notice places emphasis on enhancing the IPv6 upgrading and improvement of commercial website systems and the Internet websites systems of governments, schools and enterprises, promoting the transition of various businesses to IPv6, and ensure a smooth evolution. Additionally, they should adopt such emerging businesses as the Internet of Things, cloud computing and mobile Internet, deploy a group of typical and demonstrative Next Generation Internet applications in some major fields like education, agriculture, industry, medicine and transportation, and develop new services, markets and operation models.

The infrastructure mentioned in early days refers to public facilities like roads, railways, airports, communications, water, electricity, coal and gas. The issuance of the Notice will speed up the construction and upgrading of information infrastructure, fully advance the development of Chinese Next Generation Internet, nurture a greater number of excellent inventions and enterprises, and boost information consumption.

Global IPv6 Summit 2014 establishes an exchange, publicity and guidance platform for Next Generation Internet construction

It is made clear in the Notice that more attention will be paid to publicity and guidance in the construction of Next Generation Internet. All demonstration cities need to make greater efforts to publicize the construction of the national Next Generation Internet demonstration cities and create an favorable environment for the development of Next Generation Internet.

Against such a backdrop, Global IPv6 Next Generation Internet Summit 2014 will be collaboratively sponsored by Global IPv6 Forum, Next Generation Internet Key Technology and Assessment Beijing Municipality Engineering Research Center and Beijing Internet Institute from 17-18 April 2014. At the Summit, over 100 important guests will make a speech, where they will introduce the latest products and solutions about the industrial upgrading, construction and commercial application of IPv6 and show the commercial application and deployment of IPv6 by such internet manufacturers as operators and device manufacturers at home and abroad. Moreover, they will share their opinions on various topics, including the current development of IPv6, upgrading direction, industrial chain and transition solutions, industry application and test, IPv6 network environment security, and the construction of Next Generation Internet demonstration cities.

Global IPv6 Next Generation Internet Summit will establish an extensive exchange platform of IPv6 Next Generation Internet to acquire and share the experience in constructing Next Generation Internet demonstration cities across the world. Meanwhile, it will explore distinct applications in e-government affairs, industry application and public service, seek the business development models which make full use of the IPv6 technologies, have demonstrative effect and can be popularized.

It is said that there will be IPv6 tests in the initial stage of Global IPv6 Next Generation Internet Summit 2014, including the IPv6 website test, the application test, the device test, the terminal test and the IPv6 transition technology test. All these tests will boost relevant applications, quicken the upgrading and transition to IPv6, ensure the large-scale deployment of the IPv6 commercial network, and promote the sound and orderly development of the Next Generation Internet industry.
